Description:
Counterattack is a 7-map mini episode for Doom II that I started on in the beginning of September 2016. The maps are Boom compatible and focus on singleplayer (with COOP support). Gameplay consists of my standard, medium-paced difficulty with an emphasis on exploration and semi-nonlinear flow. The map sizes range from medium to large, with the largest taking around 30-45 minutes to complete.
The project started out as a single map for the Vinesauce mapping contest (I’m a fan of Joel’s streams), with the stipulation that I would restrict myself to using only stock Doom II textures (apart from new sky textures). After finishing up my contest submission (MAP02), I had the urge to do another…and then another. Until I finally decided to start a mini-project using the maps I was making. A few of you might recognize some connections between this and a couple of my other big projects
I finally finished the project in February 2017 after 6 months of mapping and tons and tons of testing. It was a fun ride and I learned a few new things about mapping, which is always a goal of mine when working on something! You can grab the final release from the /idgames link below. Have fun!
