Description:
Duel Surge is a pack of 20 duel maps made by the Skulltag community, lead by Wagi. The project started after a large influx of duel maps were made after the releae of Wagi’s duel map Hydris. Instead of having the maps released seperately only to float off into oblivion after a short while, Wagi decided to compile the maps into a pack. The goal was to put all of these maps into a large pack so that they would get more attention and play time.
I contributed two maps, SURGE06 Ushasu and SURGE18 White Meat. Ushasu was actually a previous speed map I made for Boom compatible ports out of bordem. The map uses the CR8 Quake texture pack I complied for Doom use, so it was more of a texture demo platform than anything. However I decided to adapt the map to be used exclusively for Skulltag play; I added/removed some items, added a little more layout, and I tweaked other areas to improve gameplay. I think in the end though, I ended up making the map too convoluted. White Meat was also a speed map that I did, but it was made specifically for Duel Surge. The reception from the community was rather lukewarm, which lead to a sequel to be started. However, the sequel project was eventually canceled.
There doesn’t seem to be an /idgames link at present for this set. For the time being, I’ll upload it to my web space.
