A blog full of misc. stuff. Could be related to my daily going-ons, gaming, turtles, rantings, personal stuffs, sleeping, etc. Just whatever I feel like writing about.

About 4 months ago I started having problems with my wireless. Basically, whenever I would enable the wireless connection, the computer would skip around in a very serious manner. You can move your mouse around for about 5 seconds and then it would freeze up completely for about 3 seconds…really weird stuff. Nothing I did fixed the problem for long and I couldn’t find a solution anywhere on the internet. I figured it had something to do with the hardware, so I called up Alienware (uh yea, I’ve got an Alienware…forgot to mention that) and talked with one of their people. Long story short they didn’t tell me anything I hadn’t already tried, so I just sorta gave up on it. Thankfully I don’t use my wireless that often so it wasn’t that big of a deal, but it did bug me that I couldn’t use it if I wanted to.

Yesterday, something got my attention while I was working. For whatever reason, icons for various files and applications where being replaced by the generic looking windows icon…like Windows lost the icons or something. This made alarms go off in my head and it looked like I there might be registry errors or something. I thought that thankfully I have Spybot S&D running when I first got my computer a year go, and it always makes a registry backup when you first run it. So I reboot Windows into safe mode and revert back to the backed-up registry. The problem is fixed…or so I thought. After a few minutes it started happening again, so now I’m thinking I may have a virus. I reboot and everything is fine for a while…but then icons start disappearing again. Thank god I bought that external hard drive when it was on sale…

I make back-ups of all of my up-do-date work and files and whatnot, log everything I need to redownload and install, and then I break out my never-used Alien Respawn disc (which is basically Norton Ghost). Boy is this thing nice; it’s a DVD image of the hard drive as it was when they first send you your computer. Basically I was reverting back to the factory configuration. Everything went smoothly and I’ve got most of my stuff reinstalled :D. Which is nice because I’ve got things to finish up. I just finished reinstalling Phanstasy Star Online Blue Burst with the SCHTHack. I haven’t played it in months but you have to sign in every 90 days so they won’t delete your characters. I signed in tonight and I thought it would be nice to play it again. Hopefully I won’t get addicted to it like I did last time…

Oh, in other news: IGPack v1.1 is in progress! When I released v1.0 to the public I was almost certain that I would be releasing an update within a few days. Which is good actually! I wanted to get as many bugs fixed and maps fun to play as possible before I made an official upload to /idgames to be reviewed for Newstuff. Most of the stuff that’s left to do is bug fixes for various scripts and client-siding stuff…most of which I can’t fix :p . But with any luck, v1.1 will be out very shortly!
