Eviternity is a Boom-compatible singleplayer/COOP mapset by Dragonfly that’s making use of ukiro’s amazing new texture set (OTEX).  I was approached by ukiro to see if I would be interested in making a map using his yet-to-be-released texture set.  Being a sucker for quality texture sets, I was super interested in contributing something (and I had actually been following his texture posts for a while).

At the moment I have only contributed one map to the project.  The map, called Gossamer, is actually my submission for Vargskelethor’s 2nd Doom mapping contest.  I didn’t have any plans for the map after Joel played it, so I figured it would make an ok candidate for Eviternity.  The map is still technically in progress as of this post as I’m waiting for ukiro to make a few more needed textures.  So for now, I’m going to post some screenshots of the original map with vanilla textures.

Gossamer is a medium-sized gothic+hell+city map that I somehow finished up within about a week.  It’s a fairly difficult map but with lots of action and some dynamic set-pieces.  I purposefully made the map mostly linear with the intention of making it as non-confusing as possible for Joel (while still allowing for small flow deviations in couple of places).  I was burnt out on mapping for a good while after pushing so hard to finish it before the deadline.  But I was quite happy with the end result in both gameplay and visuals.  The version of that map that will appear in Eviternity will be even better with more involved gameplay, better balancing, more dynamic iterations, and a fantastic new coat of paint.

I’m not sure if I’ll be able to contribute another map to this project (or if there’s even an open slot I could take advantage of).  But this is something that everyone who likes Doom should be keeping an eye on, trust me.
