Description:

32in24-12: IRON MAPPER is the 12th installment of the 32in24 series. This session was another Capture the Flag roundup. We were given some new textures to use (mostly to help differentiate between blue and red bases). Like with the previous entry, 32in23-11, we we’re given 24 hours to create our maps which would then be tested in a round of Odamex Monday Nitro. With feedback from the play session, we were given a week to make alterations and add details to our maps.

Like the eleventh session, I was caught a bit off guard. I was actually getting ready to leave on vacation with the family only a few minutes after the session started, so I plopped down a super fast and very straight-forward layout. I didn’t get a chance to add things to the map, but 32in24 leader and good friend Shaikoten very graciously took care of item placements for me while I was away. When I got back, I was really eager to detail the map since I had some ideas floating around in my head while away. It spent entirely too much time on it, but I think it came out pretty nice. It is inspired by the theme I’m doing for a Vela Pax map (MAP04); I also did this in another 32in24 session where I made a map themed similar to a Vela Pax map (MAP05).

Also the name of this map might be my favorite out of any 32in24 session – A Roboticized Lizard Comprised Entirely of Moving Wooden Parts, Neurokinetic Circuitry, and the Heart of a Moldy Bald Eagle (thanks to Shaikoten for that!)

There was a small bit of drama after I finished and uploaded the map though. It turns out I broke the SEGS limit and Odamex didn’t support doubled SEGS (like the ports I tested the map in). So effectively my map broke Odamex and wouldn’t run at all. The Green Herring, who usually complies the 32in24 maps, graciously got the map under the limits for me while I was out of town near the deadline. Thanks to him, my map was able to make it into this pack!
